PROFILE OF MRS. OLAPEJU AINA AWOLIYI

Olapeju Aina Awoliyi, the determined, dogged and dedicated jinx breaker was born on the 19th of March, 1954 to the families of Martins on Lagos Island and the Mobee Royal Families of Badagry, both in the Lagos State of Nigeria.

She won the best graduating student price of 74/75 foundation class in Farnborough College of Technology, U.K.

She won the best graduating student of Emily Wolf School of Accountancy in the ACCA final Exams of the school.

On her return to Nigeria in 1978, she resumed at her duty post at Peat Marwick Ani Ogunde & Co, She led several Audit teams on various assignments spanning wide range of industries in Nigeria. She left voluntarily in January 1986 as Assistant Audit Manager.

 

CONTINENTAL MERCHANT BANK

She joined Continental Merchant  Bank Nigeria Limited ( then Chase Manhattan Bank) where she rose to become Deputy Financial Controller and Head, Finance and Accounts with key responsibilities relating to Loan Administration, Treasury/International Operations,  Budget and Budgetary Control, Formulation of financial Procedures just to mention a few. She also served on various committees.

 

Devcom  Bank

 Mrs. Awoliyi was attracted to Devcom Merchant Bank in 1993. She was the chief Inspector of the bank.  She thus became a member of the chief inspectors of banks in Nigeria.

 

Equatorial Trust Bank

In furtherance of her banking career, she in March 1996, sought for higher responsibilities, this time as Principal Manager with Equatorial Trust Bank Plc in charge of internal audit of the bank.

 

Co- operative Development Bank Plc. Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, with Sub-Head office in Victoria Island, Lagos State

Ladies & gentlemen, the sterling qualities of this Amazon was fully exploited at CDB as she promptly rose to become the Deputy General Manager and Group Head, Finance and Administration, having successfully held the following briefs:

  • Financial Controller: November, 1998 – January, 2001.
  • Group Head, Management Information: Feb. 2001 – Aug. 2002
  • Head, Finance and Planning: Sept. 2002 – Jan. 2003
  • Head, Finance and Administration: Jan. 2003 – Dec. 2005

As Group Head, Finance and Administration, she reports directly to the Managing Director on Finance, Human Capital and Asset Management.

 

Lagos State University

She applied for and was appointed the Bursar of Lagos State University in January, 2006 in a kingly contested interview

Today, she is the first person to successfully serve two terms (4years each) as the Bursar of Lagos State University. Her achievements as the Chief Financial Officer of the great institution of higher learning are traceably evident and include:

  • Full computerization of the Accounting processes in the university.
  • Full deployment of robust financial/accounting software for bursary & payroll operations.
  • Decentralization of the Bursary department at Faculties/College level.
  • Ensuring throughout her tenure the prompt presentation and Audit of the University accounts.
  • Assisted greatly in attracting State Government attention to LASU for better funding.
  • Introduction of unique students’ bursary numbers to track students financial records.
  • Introduction of E-banking and eradication of cash collection at all levels of transactions.
  • Institution of regular in house/external professional training and seminars for bursary staff.
  • Introduction of Management by objective as a tool for optimal performance by staff.
  • Efficient investment of funds for expansion of capital base and cash position.

She is currently the Bursar of Eko University of Medicine & Health Sciences(EKOUNIMED) Ijanikin Lagos Badagry Express Way.

She had attended and presented papers at various international and local conferences, seminars, and management enhancement programs.

 

Religion;

Religiously, she is a committed Christian, member of the Anglican Communion who serves God with her time, energy and substance. She had served in various committees and societies both in St Michael Anglican church ojo and The Cathedral of St. Thomas Badagry.

In addition to the above she has contributed to the church activities as follows;

She is married to Chief Michael Oladisun Awoliyi, a mother and grandmother, blessed by God with three (3) wonderful children, all doing well to the glory of God. She is also a mother to many whose lives she has touched in one way or the other.
